Spinal Cord Injury Home Care in the Grand Rapids, Michigan and the surrounding area

If you or someone you love has a spinal cord injury and lives in the Grand Rapids area, finding the right home care isn’t just about scheduling shifts — it’s about finding caregivers who understand what SCI actually demands, day in and day out.

NeuroCare Home Health specializes in exactly that. We provide 24/7, one-on-one in-home care for people with spinal cord and traumatic brain injuries, serving clients across all of Michigan — including the greater Grand Rapids area and West Michigan communities. Our founder, Nick, has a C6 spinal cord injury himself. That lived experience is built into how we hire, how we train, and how we care.

We Serve Grand Rapids and West Michigan

NeuroCare is a statewide agency — we don’t operate out of a single brick-and-mortar office, and we don’t need to. Our care model is built for Michigan’s geography.

We recruit and match caregivers locally and regionally, including in the West Michigan corridor. When a client in Grand Rapids needs coverage, we source, screen, and match caregivers who live nearby. Your care team is local. The coordination is statewide.

This means you get the specialized expertise of an SCI-focused agency with the local presence that makes day-to-day coverage actually reliable.

We serve Grand Rapids, Kentwood, Wyoming, Walker, Grandville, and surrounding West Michigan communities.

Why Families and Case Managers Choose NeuroCare

Most home care agencies are built for the elderly and homebound population. NeuroCare is different — we exist specifically to serve younger, active adults with spinal cord and traumatic brain injuries.

  • SCI specialization. We focus on the care needs that most agencies aren’t equipped for: bowel programs, catheterization, skin integrity, assisted transfers, range of motion, and 24/7 coverage.
  • Founder’s lived experience. Nick has a C6 SCI and personally understands what it means to rely on a caregiver for everything. That perspective shapes every hiring decision and every training we deliver.
  • True 1:1 care, 24/7. Most of our clients receive 168 hours of coverage per week — one caregiver dedicated to one client per shift, every shift.
  • Client-directed model. You direct your care. Caregivers support your routines, your preferences, and your independence.
  • Michigan auto no-fault expertise. Nearly all of our clients came to us after an auto accident. We know how Michigan no-fault billing works, and we accept auto no-fault and workers compensation insurance — no Medicaid, no private pay complexity.
  • 95% client retention. Our clients stay because the care works.

Who We Work With

Individuals and Families

You’re looking for a caregiver who can handle real, high-tech SCI care — not someone who needs to be trained from scratch every few months. We specialize in bowel and bladder programs, transfers, skin care, respiratory support, and daily living routines for people who want to stay active and independent in their own homes. If you’re a West Michigan resident with auto no-fault or workers’ comp coverage, we want to talk.

Case Managers and Discharge Planners

If you’re discharging a patient from Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital or another West Michigan rehab facility and they need complex SCI home care, NeuroCare is a resource worth having. We handle high-tech care needs, 24/7 coverage, and auto no-fault billing. Reach out to discuss a specific client — we move quickly and understand the discharge timeline pressure you’re working under.

Auto No-Fault Attorneys

If your client sustained a spinal cord or traumatic brain injury in a Michigan auto accident and needs in-home care, we can help. We accept Michigan auto no-fault insurance, understand the billing and documentation requirements, and have experience working alongside legal teams. We’re a referral partner worth knowing.

How It Works

Getting started is straightforward. Here’s what the process looks like from first contact to first shift.

  1. 1. Reach out: Call or email us. We’ll ask about your situation, care needs, location, and insurance coverage to make sure we’re a good fit.
  2. ‍Needs assessment: We conduct a thorough intake conversation to understand your daily routines, functional needs, shift preferences, and what matters most to you in a caregiver relationship.
  3. ‍Caregiver matching: We identify and match caregivers from our West Michigan network based on experience, personality, availability, and your specific care requirements. You meet them before anything begins.
  4. Care begins: Once the match is approved and scheduling is confirmed, your care team is in place. We stay involved — this isn’t a one-time placement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have a local office in Grand Rapids?

No — and that’s intentional. NeuroCare is a statewide Michigan agency. We don’t operate from a single office because SCI home care doesn’t work that way. Caregivers are recruited and deployed locally; coordination and support happen statewide. You’ll always have a real person to call, but we don’t require a local storefront to provide exceptional care.

What insurance do you accept?

We accept Michigan auto no-fault insurance and workers compensation only. We do not accept Medicaid or private pay. Nearly all of our clients were injured in auto accidents and carry no-fault coverage.

What makes your care different from a general home care agency?

Most home care agencies serve elderly clients who need help with basic ADLs. Our entire model is built around SCI care for younger, active adults — bowel programs, catheterization, transfers, skin integrity, respiratory support, and around-the-clock coverage. This specialization matters. It means our caregivers are trained for your actual needs, not adapted from a general model.

How quickly can care start?

Typically within one to two weeks from the initial inquiry. The timeline depends on intake, caregiver matching, and the client meet-and-greet. We work quickly because we know delays have real consequences.
